Letter from the President

Dear Members,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I hope you are having a healthy and happy winter season. We are busy this off season preparing the pool for another summer full of fun and relaxation.

Over the past few years, many capital improvements were made to our pool – some you can see and some are underground. The pool had a major overhaul last summer! We replaced the coping stone around the pool, completed concrete work, installed a new pump and plumbing, dug out the swim lanes, updated the playground and finished repair work on the baby pool. Did you know we also purchased over 100 chairs, loungers, bases and umbrellas over the last 3 years? Before that, Waugh Chapel Swim Club built a two story pavilion, repaved and enlarged the basketball courts, and repaired our tennis courts. This summer a tennis coach was added to our offerings – who took a tennis lesson?

Let’s talk about our amazing sports teams! Waugh Chapel Swim Club is full of talent – we have two sport teams that consistently dominate the league’s standings. Our Dive Team has been undefeated for 7 years. Our Swim Team was undefeated for over 5 years and has climbed back up to Division 1 for the first time in over 20 years! Top notch coaches bring experience and wisdom, while helping our young athletes achieve their potential. We appreciate the non-sports members’ patience while our teams use our pool, so the Board of Directors made sure to schedule extra family nights and extended hours to help offset the time the pool was closed for swim and dive meets.

The social and relaxing atmosphere of our pool makes it one of the best places to be in the summer. The mini snow cone was the big hit of the Snack Bar this summer, not to mention the yummy chicken tenders, french fries, and special items of the week served hot and fresh from our brand new fryer. Our Facilities Directors worked hard and were able to purchase the fryer at a great price, in addition to replacing our commercial refrigerator and freezer, making our Snack Bar state of the art. We hope you had a blast at one of our many special events such as Opening Day, Father’s Day, Fourth of July, Annual Member Dinner, and Labor Day Carnival. Most of our special events are free to the membership. Our phenomenal Socials Director kept the fun going by bringing in a DJ this past summer. She also coordinated Paint Nights, a Crab Feast, Water Aerobics, Wine in the Woods, Special Musical Guests, and Family Night Swims that kept everyone’s calendar full of activities. Did anyone take a free Hula lesson during the Luau weekend?

With all of these fun social offerings, facilities updates, and pool maintenance, come expenses. The Board is a good steward of the pool’s finances, as no new loans were taken out to complete these updates, repairs, or purchase of new equipment over the last 4 years. With careful thought and deliberation, the Board of Directors voted to increase the yearly maintenance fee by $50. Beginning in 2018, the annual maintenance fee will increase from $500 to $550 a year. An early bird discount of 5% will still be offered ($27.50) if fees are paid by April 1, 2018. In addition, a two payment option will be offered when you receive notice for the 2018 maintenance fee from the Membership Director.

The Board carefully considered the pool’s finances, operating costs, labor cost increases, and the upcoming needs of Waugh Chapel Swim Club before voting to increase the maintenance fee. Our membership and maintenance fees continue to be one of the lowest among surrounding pools/clubs, while offering a greater variety of amenities and activities.

The Board of Directors hopes you have a great winter. The pool opens on May 26, 2018 – we will see you poolside.
